We are not a shelter. We foster the pets in our foster homes therefore we do not have hours of operation.
Please allow 5 to 7 days for processing.
SOME DOGS ARE ADOPTED OUT BASED ON SPAY/NEUTER AGREEMENT WITH DEPOSIT REQUIRED (IF NOT ALTERED AT TIME OF ADOPTION).
OPR HAS THE RIGHT TO DENY OR DECLINE ANY APPLICANT.
Some of our adoption qualifications:
- You must be 24 years of age or older.
- You must own your home.
- Someone must be available to exercise your adopted puppy or dog at least once every 4 hours during the day.
- Puppies under the age of six months are not adopted out to families with children younger than 7 years old.
- Someone in the adoptive family must have first-hand puppy raising experience if adopting a puppy.
- All pets in the applicants home must be up to date with vaccines, visit the vet as they recommend, and are altered.
We require that each of our pets are adopted out to a permanent, stable, safe and loving home for their entire lives.
|
| OPR formally was a branch of DPR, who is a non-profit 501(c) organization. Costs from adoption fee's are applied to shelter pull fees, transportation costs, supplies and medical costs. |
|
- Adoption fee's are listed in each dog's bio.

WHERE DOES THE ADOPTION FEE GO? -
Many shelters charge Rescue's for pull fees which are anywhere from $50 to $175.00
Many puppy mills charge us a fee per dog.
Our dogs and puppies come not only from Ohio but from VA, WV, GA, MO, TN and IN which involve transportation costs (van rental, driver fee's, GAS, tolls).
VET BILLS - Our biggest expense. OPR pays for boarding at vet offices for a minimum of two weeks on transports out of state. All animals are thoroughly examined by a certified vet prior to release for adoption. All puppies are wormed and given their first set of shots and all adult dogs are altered, up to date on shots, given heartworm and flea control, heartworm and lyme tested.
Many rescue groups will not deal with puppies. They have good reason. Puppies who have been placed in shelters, or not properly taken care of in their early weeks, often need vet care. We rarely receive a litter of pups that does not need antibiotics or more when they arrive into our care. One puppy who needs a two or three day hospitalization easily runs us $1000. If one puppy in the litter is sick, they all will require treatment. We have had virus's go through litters that have run us up to $8,0000. Once we commit to saving a dog, we commit to the well being of that life and will treat and care for them as one of our own but the costs are high - both emotionally and financially. SPECIAL NEEDS - OPR often takes in special needs dogs. They may range from needing extended vet care, extended foster care or specialized surgery. The dogs we rescue from Ohio Puppy Mills typically cost us over $800.00 in vet care.
THERE IS NO PROFIT IN OUR RESCUE - LOTS OF DEBT, LOTS OF HEARTACHE, HEADACHE, STRESS AND
KNOWING YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE TO THAT ONE PRECIOUS LIFE.
