DPR Mission Statement
The mission of DPR:
The rescue, care and adoption of unwanted and homeless dogs. Continued education
of the general public on the importance of spaying/neutering, positive
training methods, exercise and appropriate medical treatment with
humane care.
To work hand and hand with other ethical rescue groups promoting good working relationships to save more lives.
So that we can:
Continue our passion that enables small miracles for the dogs and the people who love them.
Delaware
Puppy Rescues' purpose is to rescue homeless dogs and Puppy Mill
survivors to be adopted to properly matched families through a
multi-step adoption process including dog training and education of the
families to ensure permanent placement.
Our History:
- Delaware
Puppy Rescue (DPR) was established in 2004 with the primary focus in
the rescue and fostering of pregnant females, mother's with new litters
and motherless litters that have been turned into shelters or found on
the streets. In 2006 we expanded in the rescue of Puppy Mill survivors
from Lancaster, PA. The reality of today's shelters is that puppies are
put down as often as adult dogs. Our belief is that a dog who has
proper training along with an adoptive families education of proper
care creates the foundation for permanent placement.

2008 Accomplishments
- We reached our 1000th adoption!
- For the first time ever we had ended the year with our vets paid off (at least on December 31st they were).
- Between our three groups (DPR, DMPR and OPR) we adopted out
328 wonderful puppies and dogs to wonderful forever homes. With those
328 adoptions, there are 328 plus people out there educating others on
the need to adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue.
- We attended our first Puppy Mill Auction in Ohio and rescued 17 dogs from the ongoing life of cruelty.
- We had our first rescues flown via Pilots N Paws volunteer pilots from Ohio to Lancaster, Ohio to Maryland and Ohio to Delaware.
- We supported and celebrated the passing of PA House Bill
2525 which was established to improve the lives of dogs living in puppy
mills.
- We saw Oprah stand up and educate others on the need to adopt a shelter dog and boycott stores selling puppies.
- We saw new management for the Stanton SPCA which has made great changes in the care and adoption of the pets in their care.
What still needs to be accomplished for 2009?
- Continue
educating the public why spaying and neutering is essential in saving
the lives of 3 to 4 million pets per year from being euthanized each
year.
- Have Delaware become one of the "puppy-free pet store" states.
- Continue and grow our relationship with shelters to rescue dogs in their care and decrease the number of pets euthanized.
- Find a cure for parvo and distemper
- End the use of gas chambers for euthanizing pets in southern shelters
- Continue to pressure state officials to enforce laws protecting animals in mills and shelters.
